Let me start by congratulating Nigerians for a free and fair election with the victory of General Buhari whom I didn’t vote for though; for many reasons which I have shared in my several articles on this blog and I am afraid that those concerns still exist inspire of his victory. However today’s article is not about Buhari as I have in about four different episodes coming up that will centre on the last presidential election…. Watch out for that! So today’s focus is on the Governor of Ogun state, a man whom majority of Ogun residents and I voted for in 2011 into office; even though he didn’t give me any disappointment…
His predecessor’s tenure was characterized by Corruption, Anarchy and Political killings, to mention but a few; which is obvious to everyone, or have we all forgotten Dipo Dina and other good souls who were sent to their early graves. So much underdevelopment was literarily written all over Ogun state. Almost all the roads were death trap! Today, all that has changed as we have seen dividend of democracy. More impressively is the fact that the state’s income was 800Million Naira when Amosun took over and he has creatively increased that to over 3Billion Naira! He inherited over 50Billion indebtedness and over 5Billion owed salary! But today, all of that has changed for the better.
Ogun state now has standard roads that one would think are federal projects with the level of standard roads available across the states. I am from Ogun state but my Business is in Lagos, I live in the outskate of Lagos that is under Ogun state. It is surprising that the name Amosun has come a “constant K”, everyone I come in contact with hails Amosu; even those in my camp of Jonathan Supporters have made up their minds long ago to vote Amosun, an APC Governor at the state level, just as I have made up my mind. My Biological Father in his old age is a grass root politician who is actively involved in the campaign for Amosun as they visit every nook and cranny of the state conversing for his reelection.
One of the amazing things I personally admire about Ibikunle Amosun is his humility. Usually incumbent, most sitting governors always have this sense of arrogance during re-election but the level of humility Amosun has displayed this election period is humbling; as he has got across the length and breadth of the state showing the Electorate why they should return him to power. Also impressively is the tolerance level he has shown as the APC in the state had some division yet no single political killing in the state! What a man of integrity he is! I remembered the popular killer squared that existed in his predecessor’s tenure.
PMP Ogun as we are popularly called will not forget the innovation and transparency used to execute the home owner project that allowed people who have bought their land in years to obtain their C of Oat. We all know the beurokracy that characterize Property documents in this Nation and in a clean sweep that was solve by the Amosun administration in the state
Agriculture has got a huge boast with loan given to farmers which has helped a lot of farmers expand their businesses. Civil Servants now have promotion entitlement and salaries paid in due time. What a sense of responsibility displayed! This is what governance is supposed to be like.
The change in the educational sector is remarkable as we now have model school in all Local government and the massive infrastructure unprecedentedly; even some schools in Lagos state are not as massive in infrastructure as we now have in Ogun state. Teachers are now better trained and alive to their responsibility. The University I finished from Olabisi Onabanjo University that I spent over 8years instead of 5year has been repositioned. At a time, there was no matriculation for over 5years at OOU; however, all that has changed now because good structures have been put in place…. All thanks to The Amosun’s administration. Why am I even talking too much? Some many wonder, If you reside in Ogun state, there is just one person to vote for and that is APC Candidate Senator Ibikunle Amosun(SIA)! Bottom line!
If the first 4years could have this much change and development, what will the next 4years look like under him? I strongly believe that he will do all ‘Omo Ogun’ proud by repositioning our state thereby, making it the envy of all, a leading state in Education, Tourism, Infrastructure and Industrial hub. I see a lot of great things that will happen to us in Ogun and can only pray that our Son comes back again. God bless Ogun State.
